Description

The Yellowtail Damselfish is a popular choice among aquarists of all levels due to its hardiness and striking appearance. Its stunning blue and yellow coloration stands out against a backdrop of corals and live rock. It is also less aggressive and requires a smaller tank than other Damsels. Originating from the Indo-Pacific region, these fish thrive with multiple hiding spots and peaceful tankmates. While they may show territorial behavior towards their own species or similarly-sized fish, this can be mitigated by keeping an odd-numbered group in an appropriately sized tank. In terms of diet, they consume zooplankton and algae but also benefit from a varied diet including meaty foods like mysis and enriched shrimp. To ensure optimal nutrition, it is recommended to offer several small meals throughout the day. While breeding in captivity is possible, it can be difficult to determine the sex of these fish. Males tend to be larger and more slender, and may become protective of eggs during mating.
